COATS INSPIRED BY THOSE POLICE OFFICERS WEAR MIGHT NOT STRIKE YOU AS A FASHION-FORWARD IDEA, but the recently launched Tactical collection, from Toronto-based outerwear company Canada Goose, is the best example of fashion meets function that we’ve ever seen. Premiered exclusively at the high-end retailer Totokaelo (with outposts in Seattle and New York), Tactical reaches back to Canada Goose’s roots—founded in 1957, the company got its start by creating durable coats for Canadian law enforcement.
The collection includes two jackets, a parka, and bib overalls, all made for extreme weather conditions. The launch kicked off in each city with an art installation by New York-based multi-media artist, Johannes VanDerBeek, who was inspired by the coat’s functionality. Called Under the Moon Leaf, the sculpture, crafted in cast concrete and iron, embodies the relationship between mankind and nature at its most extreme.
