Introducing our August/September Issue Cover Story: Jennifer Bonner

The architect is bent on pushing the boundaries of the traditional architectural canon—even if it means tackling every step of the process herself.
GRAY ISSUE 47 JENNIFER BONNER

The next issue of GRAY, heading to newsstands August 1, 2019, will feature Alabama-born architect Jennifer Bonner, founder of the creative practice MALL and a recipient of this year’s Architectural League Prize for Young Architects and Designers. An associate professor at Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, she recently completed her first built project: Haus Gables, a home that housed her family in Atlanta, Georgia (before their recent move to Portland, Oregon) that draws on southern design typologies and the crashing-together-gables of her 2014 research project Domestic Hats, which explored roof typologies in the American south. Written by GRAY’s senior editor, Rachel Gallaher, and photographed by Christopher Dibble, the story explores Bonner’s distinctive approach to her practice, in which she serves as both designer and developer on most of her projects.
