Crossing over with Paris Design Week, Maison&Objet gives designers yet another reason to visit the City of Light. From September 6–10, the international trade show will showcase more than 3,000 exhibitions (half by French designers, half from the international design community) at the Paris Nord Villepinte exhibition center.
Among the vendors in attendance, there is Masters&Wood, the high-end furniture manufacturer tucked away in the small town of Fojnica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, that produces sophisticated chairs and tables; Molo, the Vancouver-based design studio known for its folding walls, furniture, and light fixtures—all made from paper—and Kapka, the Turkish dishware brand that brings vibrancy to table settings with colorful enamel plates and mugs.
This year, Maison&Objet will operate under the theme WORK!, and feature a multi-faceted interactive laboratory of the same name that explores how workplaces can double as an artful home-away-from-home. Designed by Philippe Boisselier, WORK! will feature a program of talks on changing workplace culture; a pop-up co-working space by furniture brand Wellworking; plant-based hybrid objects designed to merge nature and the work environment by designer Alexis Tricoire, and more.
The fair will also highlight six emerging practitioners at the 2019 Rising Talent Awards. Each year, up-and-comers from a selected country are nominated by a jury of distinguished designers and are invited to display their work throughout the event. Previously, the Rising Talent Awards recognized designers from China, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Lebanon; this year, American gets its turn. Look out for work by Midwestern designer Alex Brokamp (nominated by Bernhardt Design president Jerry Helling); Brooklyn-based designer Bailey Fontaine, (hand-picked by WantedDesign’s Odile Hainaut and Claire Pijoulat), and New York design studio Green River Project (chosen by the founder of Architecture at Large and GRAY Awards 2019 judge Rafael de Cárdenas).
GRAY will be on the ground during this year’s Maison&Objet. Follow our Instagram for live updates throughout the event. For more information and a complete schedule of the event, visit maison-objet.com.
