This Thursday, October 24, the WestEdge Design Fair returns to Santa Monica’s Barker Hangar for three days filled with the best in contemporary design, including the latest in kitchens, lighting, bath, furniture, and beyond. Now in its seventh year, the 2019 iteration will feature more than 30 new exhibitors—including Flavor Paper, Smeg USA, Porcelanosa, and Ricca Design—as well as design-focused talks and installations including the Signature Kitchen Suite (complete with chef demonstrations and tastings using cutting-edge deluxe appliances) and Design Milk’s shoppable Milk Stand Pop-Up, where attendees shop homewares, jewelry, and other creations from a slew of designers.
“Heading into the seventh year of WestEdge Design Fair, we couldn’t be more proud to highlight the array of exhibitors and programming representing the best in modern design today,” WestEdge’s co-founder Troy Hanson said in a press release. “Los Angeles has become an incredibly important epicenter for so many industries, including design, architecture, art, food/beverage, and fashion, among others. We are excited to continue to showcase the originality of the city by bringing together world-class design through collaboration with the most renowned and emerging design professionals.”
The festivities kick off at the opening night party on Thursday, October 24, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the Barker Hangar. There, guests can shop the heaps of designer wares before the event officially opens, and participate in an online silent auction benefiting the Los Angeles–based post-foster care outreach nonprofit, A Sense Of Home.
Throughout the weekend, the fair’s onsite Convo By Design podcast hosts industry experts for panel discussions, seminars, and workshops on an array of topics in WestEdge’s intimate Programming Lounge, a space created in partnership with Los Angeles–based Studio Akiko, Kevin Isbell Interiors, and John McClain Design. Expect discussions on how to create a signature design line, featuring photographer Gray Malin and interior designer Sue Firestone of SFA Design; a conversation on emerging outdoor trends; tips on how to design for small spaces; and more.
Don’t miss the fair’s popular Made:Modern feature, where limited-edition lighting, furniture, art, and more by independent designers will be on view. Attendees can engage with the objects’ creators first-hand to learn about their ideas and approach, and purchase or customize goods. We’d say a trip to Santa Monica is in order, stat.
