This month, the design world will make its annual pilgrimage to New York for ICFF 2019 to take in the latest top-end furniture, lighting, and textile offerings from around the globe. Held May 19 to 22 at Manhattan’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, the 31st annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair will feature designers from 64 countries and a whopping 900-plus exhibitors (more than 25 from the Pacific Northwest), including Oregon wallpaper company Juju Papers (the contemporary papers are hand printed and sustainably produced) and Washington’s Phloem Studio, a furniture company offering handcrafted items by designer Benjamin Klebba.
New this year is the ICFF Contract pavilion, which will showcase the top lighting, furniture, flooring, wallcovering, seating, and materials from brands such as Bernhardt Design, Kartell, Poppin, and Humanscale. Expect an increased international reach with special pavilions from the likes of The British European Design Group, Luxe France, Interiors from Spain, and The Italian Trade Commission. Ventura New York, an exhibition area curated by Ventura Projects, highlights Dutch design with a selection of 17 labels and design studios (an exciting mix of established and emerging talent) from The Netherlands.
This year’s ICFF Talks includes insights from such design visionaries as Italian architect and designer Piero Lissoni, Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, architect Chad Oppenheim, and Cristina Miller of 1tstdibs.com. And look for standout, shoppable works—everything from ceramics to textiles—from 15 independent designers and makers as part of Design Milk’s annual Milk Stand popup.
