SEATTLE, WA, January 29, 2024 — International media brand GRAY Media, LLC, (GRAY) announces a brand refresh, 2024 agenda, and new team members.
GRAY unveiled a brand refresh today, including an updated logo and increased frequency for its eponymous magazine. The new logo is a block font designed by Jörn Oelsner for Profonts type foundry. “The font appealed to us as a representation of not only the building blocks that GRAY provides to the design community: connection, dialog, growth,” notes Meghan Burger, GRAY Creative Director, “but also the foundational building blocks of our company: a dynamic team, amazing clients, engaging magazine, digital content, and flagship events.”
What to expect in 2024
GRAY magazine, now quarterly, continues its move to reimagine its role in a predominantly digital world. “While digital is important, the world is so oversaturated with digital content and brand messaging that things can get a little lost,” says Shawn Williams, GRAY CEO and Founder. “With GRAY magazine, we’re doubling down on our efforts to offer topical yet timeless content in a bookish print format that offers an experience you can’t get digitally.” The 2024 issue themes are Super, Radiance, Shelter, and Nirvana.
Also on GRAY’s 2024 agenda, a new partnership with Modern Architecture + Design Society for the Interior Design Tour Series. Tours of professionally designed residential and commercial spaces will take place in Washington D.C. on April 6, Houston on April 27, Seattle on June 8, San Francisco on June 22, and Portland on September 7. Other flagship events on tap for the year include the 7th annual GRAY Awards Party held in Seattle on March 21 (the 8th GRAY Awards entry portal is slated to open in June), and Destination DesignCon taking place May 2–4 in Palm Springs. Additionally, season 5 of GRAY's In the Design Lounge videocast featuring host Brandon Gaston will launch March 5.
New to the Team
Further, GRAY announces additional team members to its editorial and sales departments. Carla Sorrell, appointed Managing Editor, brings her creative leadership to GRAY’s growing print and digital platforms, supporting GRAY’s endeavors to showcase inspiring and innovative design happening around the world. Based in Victoria, British Columbia, Sorell is the founder and director of Design Victoria. She’s a seasoned journalist, design consultant, and executive coach in Canada and the United Kingdom where she has written for British Vogue, Showstudio, Fashion Canada, the Design Museum, WGSN, and Stylus, as well as led design partnerships with Renault, Tom Dixon, Google, and the British Council.
Joining GRAY’s sales department, Account Executives LaQuan Smallwood, Casey Vandenoever, and Jeannine Lewis will focus on print, digital, and event advertising and sponsorships. Smallwood works with national and global teams focused on design and lifestyle. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, his background includes Time Out, The Cut, and New York Magazine.
