A closer look at the Deckhand Rigging Knife, one of four finalists in the 2021 GRAY Awards Product Design, Other category.
Deckhand Rigging Knife
The Deckhand Rigging Knife is a contemporary reimagination of the classic sailor’s marlinspike rigging knife. The design is a modern embodiment of the quality and simplicity found in traditional sailing tools and equipment. The form is respectful of the rich nautical history from which it was derived and to which it belongs. Contemporary objects designed with this perspective are noticeably absent from the current boating equipment market. The Deckhand Rigging Knife constitutes a deserving update to a time-tested and beloved tool. It is an indispensable tool for sailors, and as such it must withstand the harsh environment of the sea and a lifetime of work. The Deckhand Rigging Knife is designed for easy repair and of a quality that can be passed down to subsequent generations of seafaring enthusiasts.
