A closer look at Exo Dining Table, one of five finalists in the 2021 GRAY Awards Furniture/Lighting Product Design category.
Exo Dining Table
The EXO Series is the latest collection representing a culmination of designer James De Wolf's 16 years working with concrete. Each table in the series of is bolstered externally with non-corrosive metals, in this case, bronze and stainless steel. The pieces' organic forms mimic the exoskeletons of microscopic organisms found on the ocean floor. For example, the outer edge of the table meanders organically rather than staying in a rigid circle; the leg does as well. De Wolf's skillful approach allows the surface of EXO to be a mere 3/4 “ thick, creating pieces with vibrant and approachable qualities. Like an exoskeleton is one piece, there are no seams in the metal, and as concrete is a liquid that turns to stone, De Wulf turns the two materials into one stunning form.
